Two geezers out for a Sunday ride.

My friend Kenny needed to run his '62 Vette. We took it out for a little joy ride
on a beautiful fall Sunday morning. He offered to let me drive, but I deferred, just wanting to enjoy the wind in my (one) hair.

A Barnstormer comes to town!

Andrew King stopped by a  ferry flight to Arizona with a homebuilt Travel Air 4000.
He had one spark plug that was continually fouling and didn't want to go any further with the storms in the area. We returned the following morning and he actually got airborne but returned when the engine started acting up again.

He and Glenn worked on it all day, chasing the missfire. I came back out at 3, surprised that he was still there. They buttoned up the airplane and Andrew took it on a test hop around the field. By that time, it was too late to head towards the next hayfield so Andrew spent another night in the hotel.

Andrew does a postflight on the airplane.

Better than a hayfield--Andrew and Glenn Peck do maintenance on the airplane.

O-dark-thirty in the morning, Andrew does his preflight.

Under cloudy skies, he starts up and warms up the engine.

Just before takeoff.

Link to the Past

Alicia Clark Burgett pictured with her family and the 1928 Timm Collegiate which was flown by her Great Grandfather.

Early last week, I received an interesting message on Facebook, " My great grandfather (Captain Robert Kelso) owned and flew that plan around 1928-1930 and my dad, myself and my brothers are hoping to say hello to her on our way through."

We were able to make that possible Thursday afternoon.

We've had enough of your attitude Hisso...

I helped Glenn pull the Hisso off of the Standard today and put it on an engine stand.
Hopefully tomorrow, we will fix its starting problem....

First Flight! (Travel Air) Curtiss-Wright Air Sedan back in the skies!

Three years of dedicated and talented working by Glenn Peck culminated in the prototype Curtiss-Wright Air Sedans first flight (post restoration) today.

At the controls was former De Havilland Test Pilot Desmond Penrose. Desmond is a good friend to the aircraft owner, Al Stix, who was also present.

Desmond gets some last minute words of advice
from restorer Glenn Peck.

Glenn goes over cockpit layout with Desmond.

Glenn pulls the big Wright 975 through.

Desmond gets the feel of the airplane on the grass runway.

Liftoff!

Gently back to earth.

Desmond shakes Als hand after the flight.

Desmond goes over postflight details with Glenn and Al.
